Chapter 6 (pages 85-97): Death March

Describe the march from Buna/Auschwitz to Gleiwitz.

If you saw "One Survivor Remembers," how is it the same or different?

  1. The things that the girl form the movie and Elie share is that both of them were put on the march and both of them lost loved ones. Also both of them were put on the march for many days. The difference now is that the girl from the video didn't have her father with her during the march just her boots which her father told her to ware that day. Somethings about the march was that they weren't give any food or just a bit of it. They had little time to rest and if they rested when they wanted to they would get shot. They couldn't run away or they would get shot. Some people were to weak to continue and gave up. The girl from the movie didn't give up and made it.

  2. Both experiences were horrendous, lengthy, and exhausting. Elie and Gerda both were forced to watch as those around them were either beaten or collaped due to exhastion. However they were among the fortunate who had the will and strength to survive. The stories of the survivers differ however. Elie was fortunate enough to have his father who provided him with strength and a reason to live. Gerda was the only member of her family on the march, but she had her close friends to give her a reason to live. Gerda's march was also significantly longer. I recall her talking about how during the march she watched the seasons change. Elie marched only a few days in the freezing winter. A human being should never have to endure such experiences.

  3. They were both the same only that it could have been harder for Greda because she said that most of the girls were wearing sandals and she wasnt. Greda was wearing the skin boots that her father had told her to wear. The only thing that they were both exausting and they both saw how people collapesed due to exaustion and no food. Another reason in which Gredas march was much longer, while Elies march was only a few days durning winter.

  4. To compare “One Survivor Remembers” with “Night”, is very difficult. Eli and Gerda have their differences and similarities. What they have in common, is that they survived the holocaust, loose most of their family members, go through the holocaust by themselves, and watch people die in front of their eyes. That, is what I call pure brutality. Gerda lost all of her family members, but Eli had his father to encourage him to be stronger every day. During the march, Gerda had her boots on, which practically saved her life. Eli went on the march for a few days. I guess little things do save someone’s life.

  5. Trying to compare the book of "Night" with the movie of "One Survivor Remembers" is pretty hard. The main reason is because both stories and both characters are very different. For example, Elie's life was horrible and at the end he survived but he was kind of horrored by what he lived and saw. On the other hand, Gerda had a pretty tolerable life; she lived in the concentration camp, but she was saved by a soldier who ended up beeing her husband. If we see both characters had differences but there were some similiraties, for example: neither both of them found their relatives and they suffered during their time in the concentration camp.

  6. Both the movie and the book are the same because it is talking about the march and how your couldn't stop when you wanted to, the pain you had to suffer while walking. Also, the book and the movie relates because they have to run and if they stop for one second they are going to get shot. Elie and Gurda had differences and similarities both of them lost many friends, and family, but Gurda lost all of her family, but Elie had his dad the almost everytime next to him to encourage. When Gurda was walking in the march she had her boots that practically saved her life, and Elie really didn't have anyhting but he still made it to the end thanks to his dad.

  7. The movie and the book is almost the same just that Ellie had his family with him and Gurda was alone and surviving.
But both are practically the same topic
