I think that having a Jew as a leader would have been a stroke of luck. Even though they carried out jobs that the Nazis made them do, sometimes they would cover for the Jews, or go easy on them out of sympathy. This is true because but the leader and "worker" is Jew, so they are both being persecuted, one is just a few ranks above the other. This was a horrible time, you may end up putting your own father into a chamber, but having a Jewish leader, sometimes they could spare you, or say that your group has been doing well out of pure mercy.

I agree with Abbey and I think that having a Jew as a leader would be extremely lucky. Maybe, when the prisoners made a mistake, the Jew leaders would go easy on you and maybe not punish as badly if you were with another leader. Since both the leader and the prisoners are Jews, then maybe they get along better and help them survive in the concentration camps. The Jewish prisoners might even be spared if they had to go do something like dig a ditch or kill people in gas chambers. Other leaders would probably make you work harder and for less food. I'm guessing here but I think that they might even kill the Jew’s prisoners themselves. I think that the leaders might have given the prisoners extra food or something in order to help them survive more.
I think having a Jew as your leader is really good. He will know the feelings of all the Jews in the camp. The leader would be nicer than the other leaders. The Jew leader would understand if you ask him to not separate you from your dad. The leader could feel a little sorry for the prisoners and give more bread and soup. Also, I think that having a Jew as your leader is very lucky. The Jew leader wouldn’t treat you as bad as the SS officers. Even though they have orders from the SS officers, they will treat the prisoners better. Having some kind of freedom in the camp would be extremely nice for the prisoners. Elie would have felt good for a little while he was in the camp.
