What were the consequences of being considered among the strongest and healthiest? How is this ironic?

  2. It wasn’t good to volunteer in those times in that place. If you said you were strong and healthy, the Nazis would put you in charge of the crematoriums, the gas chambers, and other places. You would have to deal with the fact that you are putting people that you’ve might have known to their deaths. You could also be forced to shut the door of the crematorium/gas chambers while you hear people scream. Also this is terrible because if the Nazis said that they weren’t the ones who were burning the bodies then they wouldn’t be lying. This is ironic because even though you were healthy physically after a few weeks you would be disturbed mentally. What the Nazis did was very low and I can't believe they did that to people.

  3. The strongest people were chosen to basically help kill the rest of the Jews; their own kind. Being put in that position was one of the worst things anyone could be in. Being one of the strongest, one had to put anything and everything in either the crematorium, gas chamber, or any other place that would kill people. This was so cruel and not acceptable. These people actually had a heart, they had emotion. Not like the Nazis or the Red police, or anybody else that killed, the strong Jews actually had feelings for killing people. Some people that they were made to put in and kill them were people they knew, people they had known for the longest time. Some may have even been their family members. Imagine putting your mother, father, sister or brother in the crematorium to die, without a chance of them surviving. How inhumane was that? They weren't made to kill, yet they forced. No person should be forced to do such a horrific event. The irony was huge here imagining that the strongest of the people there were sent out to do the most horrible jobs, and since their the strongest they seem to be able to handle all the horrifying images, but after they did those cruel, raw jobs, they seem like the smallest person on the planet. They seem to be the strongest physically, yet they are one of many that are the weakest mentally. No matter how big one is, how strong, tall or muscular someone may be, they still could end up being the smallest person inside, mentally from all they have seen, from all they have been through.-Nalleli

  4. If you were the strongest in a bunch of people you would think it is good for you, but its the exact opposite, it is awful. When you are the physically dominant one, you are forced to work in jobs like working the crematorium. This job is just horrible! What kind of sane non-killing person wants to be a murderer of their own people? They might even have to murder one of their own family members if their luck is that bad. Then you would also think that the strongest would be leading the rebellion or fighting back, but instead they are made weaker and weaker everyday by the sight of burning human beings and their heart shattering screams. Many must have gone crazy, and many hated the job, but you had to do what you had to do to survive the holocaust.

  5. If you were too healthy the Nazis could make you be in charge or help in the crematoria and/ or gas chambers. They were probably the worst jobs, I think. You had to help clean up and move the people from the crematoria and the gas chambers. Being the strongest you might have had to close the doors of the gas chambers, like Yeggi said. While closing the door you had to listen to people moving desperately and screaming their last words. Imagine hearing your family screaming and then having to see them dead in the gas chambers. It must have been really sad. I think that you must have had to be a really strong person to be able to move dead people. You also have to be very strong not wanting to open the door of the gas chambers or crematoria and letting everyone leave. This is ironic because you would think that it would be better to be healthier because that way you were more likely to live.

  6. The strongest people of the camp were not just strong physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Since these Jews were the strongest they were given the most gruesome job: Murder. It is indeed true that the Nazi's didn't exactly "kill" the Jews themselves but in fact that Jews aided in the deaths of other Jews. The stroingest were in charge of the gas chambers. Forced to shove and administrate in the killing process. They had to wait in slence as their fellow people sometimes their own kin beg for mercy. This could completely damage a person's mind. This could lead a person to insanity. no single person should have to repeatedly witness death and assist in it as if it was a regular duty. That alone is torture, but then again the emotional toll is excrutiating. Just thinking about helping fulfill the duties of those who are oppressing you is gutt wrenching. The strongest Jews indeed are the only prisoners who could have did the job.
